The Hong Kong Alliance of Technology and Innovation is a charity foundation dedicated to shaping a better future through science and technology. Since 2009, we have become the largest funder of research related to science and technology here, having amassed a total funding portfolio exceeding HK$14.68 billion since our establishment. Alongside grantmaking activities, we also support various academic outreach activities as part of our mission of encouraging more young people in Hong Kong to embrace these fields, so they may pursue careers within them, contribute positively to social progress here, and become global leaders within their fields of expertise.
Five scientists were recognized with this year’s Shaw Prize in Hong Kong for their contributions in astronomy, life science and medicine, mathematical sciences, and education. The Foundation announced it is delighted to honor “changemakers who are advancing education in a rapidly changing world” The winners will each be receiving an award worth HK$480 Million with half going toward an unrestricted project fund to further scale up their work.
US lawmakers have nominated pro-democracy activists in Hong Kong for a Nobel peace prize, calling them an inspiration in light of Beijing’s crackdown. These nominations form part of a larger campaign initiated by activists around the world calling on Joshua Wong, leader of last month’s mass protests against a new national security law, to be released immediately from detention by authorities.
No decisions have yet been made on whether the nomination will be accepted; winners of the prize will be revealed in December; nomination deadline for candidates is November 19.

HK Prize competition is open to citizens aged 18-30 living or from Hong Kong, who wish to showcase their innovative ideas on creating an Official Development Assistance (ODA) programme to strengthen Hong Kong as a hub of international development and cooperation. The winning submission will have the chance to showcase its innovative approaches toward creating such an ODA programme and be recognized for it by our judges.
Judges for HK Prize awards will assess applicants based on impact, innovation, and sustainability in their submissions. A panel composed of prominent experts from government, business, academia will judge every application thoroughly before selecting winners in each category based on at least three judges’ ratings of impact, innovation and sustainability – each assessment carried out by at least three eminent experts from government, business or academia will assess at least three applications independently before selecting an overall winner for each category based on at least three evaluations from three independent judges.
