Domino – An Emblematic of Power and Dominance

Dominoes (dominoses, bones, cards, men, and tiles) are flat squares bearing one or more values (also called “pips”) on each side, used to determine their rank and weight which in turn indicates their strength or force. In the most basic Western game, double six sets are shuffled together and placed before each player as “stock” or “boneyards”, then players draw random tiles required for play (usually seven) from this stock to start the game; the first player who completes their domino chain will win.

Dominoes are powerful forces, often described as unstoppable cyclones of destruction that leave people gasping for breath when they erupt. But this destructive power also represents authority, dominance and the mastery over others.

The term originates in Latin and was taken directly from Dominus – Dominus is Latin for “lord”, so “dominion” was created out of it to mean master or lord. Dominance has long been an indicator of strength, power and authority – often applied to people who wield strong influence over others and exert their will upon them. Modern-day use often sees this word applied to individuals who wield considerable influence over them or can enforce their will upon them.

Learning difficulties often have the same domino-like effect on students as dominoes do on lines of dominoes; with just a small movement they can all fall. When this occurs, compensating for their learning challenges can become an endless cycle wherein a core skill development process becomes insignificant while being overwhelmed with other tasks.

Hevesh uses a modified engineering-design process when she crafts her stunning domino setups: first she considers the theme or purpose for an installation; next, she brainstorms images or words that might help convey its message; once selected, these are drawn on paper with arrows showing how to construct its track.

She has also developed her own online domino-design software to enable users to plan out tracks and structures with dominoes, from straight lines and curves, grids that form pictures when falling, stacked walls and 3-D pyramids – to plan out straight tracks and structures with dominos.

Magneto, who hired Domino as his CIA handler, noticed that Rumekistan had been taken over by anti-national terrorist group ULTIMATUM led by Flag-Smasher and enabled Cable to take control of it; she later assassinated Flag-Smasher after becoming alarmed that Cable had returned to messianic behavior and recruited her into joining G. W. Bridge’s Six Pack with Hammer, Anaconda Solo and Deadpool as her allies.
