The BOCHK Science and Technology Innovation Prize

The Hongkong Prize is an award given in Hong Kong to recognize exceptional scientific achievements, with the intention of encouraging young STEAM talents to flourish, as well as sparking public interest in science at any age. It is administered by the Hong Kong Laureate Forum – an academic exchange organization dedicated to honoring and supporting scientists – such as Nobel Laureates or other esteemed researchers – both locally and worldwide.

According to lottery rules, winners of Hongkong prizes can collect their awards within 60 days from the date of drawing at designated lottery locations or risk losing it as it will become forfeit.

However, the Hongkong Prize hasn’t gone without controversy – with one former lottery player filing suit against Jockey Club over their 60-day deadline, alleging it violates his basic rights and therefore violating their contracts with Jockey Club. His case is currently before Court of First Instance for adjudication.

At this annual ceremony, in addition to awarding prize winners and honouring veteran arts practitioners, different awards schemes were also introduced and celebrated the creativity of Hong Kong students as well as celebrating diversity within Hong Kong’s arts scene.

The BOCHK Science and Technology Innovation Prize is open to research fields relating to Hong Kong’s scientific and technological innovation, such as Artificial Intelligence & Robotics, Life & Health, New Materials & New Energy, Advanced Manufacturing & FinTech among others. Five people (or teams) may be awarded in any one year from each award field; applicants should abide by Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of People’s Republic of China basic laws as well as possess high social morality & professional ethics when applying.

The winner of the Hongkong Prize will receive US$100,000. Additionally, an engraved gold medal will also be presented. In addition to receiving their cash award and medal, winners are required to give a presentation at City University of Hong Kong Library for consideration by review. Interested candidates can submit both full papers and abstracts (clearly marked with name and department affiliation of candidate) directly to HKU Library before August 31st 2024 for review by librarians; full papers and abstracts submitted after that deadline must be original works never published anywhere before or not available anywhere before publication (original works with no prior publication history). Submission deadline for abstracts submitted directly by authors is August 31st 2024
