The HK Prize 2023

The Hong Kong Prize (HKPrize) recognizes scientific research of exceptional merit, its commercial application and implementation for the benefit of society, and renowned expertise that have contributed significantly to society. Established by Hong Kong Alliance of Technology and Innovation (HKATI) with support from Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited as title sponsor, the Prize awards in five fields: Artificial Intelligence and Robotics; Life and Health; New Materials and Energy; Advanced Manufacturing and FinTech. Renowned experts from around the globe come annually to select outstanding scientists/ teams for their impressive achievements in science/ technological innovation that have had an impactful contribution toward society – this competition awards outstanding achievements from these five fields!

At the HK Prize 2023 ceremony, winners in each field receive both a certificate and trophy for their achievements. Furthermore, winning scientists present their research findings at public lectures as part of an initiative to foster scientific innovation within Hong Kong society and highlight its impact. HKATI and its partners support winning scientific researchers as they advance their work within Hong Kong – universities, industry-education-research bases/institutes set up by them, or Mainland researchers working in Greater Bay Area regions among others are encouraged to collaborate.

The Prize provides Hong Kong with an ideal platform to enhance its global position as a scientific research hub, an integral component of our economic transformation. Furthermore, it provides us with a means to better communicate research results worldwide and enhance international standing. Together with partners in mainland China as well as other parts of the world and stakeholders we will continue working toward strengthening Hong Kong as a top science and technology hub and contributing to economic development worldwide.

At the BOCHK Science and Technology Innovation Prize 2023 ceremony, scholars and experts from around the globe were present to honor its winners in each field. Chairman Lee of HKATI stated that this Prize was an important initiative of his Alliance and Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited that supports Hong Kong as an international science hub; further, young researchers should use its strengths to serve their countries while contributing to world peace.

Receiver of this award was truly an honour, representing recognition of my colleagues’ and my work in cellular respiration research. We are extremely happy to be sharing our discoveries with the world as well as inspiring young researchers in Hong Kong. I would like to extend my thanks and gratitude to HKATI and its partners for this fantastic opportunity, and look forward to further collaborations in the future.
