The Hong Kong Arts Development Awards is an annual flagship event for Hong Kong’s arts community, celebrating veteran and emerging arts practitioners as well as those active in arts promotion and education, patrons who have made contributions towards furthering art in Hong Kong, and patrons who have helped foster its growth.
This year, the Art Prize saw its highest application total ever, including submissions from people outside Hong Kong. This shows both its growing interest and high standard shortlist. Judges were especially taken with the diversity and quality of entries submitted – which ranged from sculptures made out of human hair to embroidery depicting Hong Kong at night skyline scenes.
Michelle Wai and Tommy Chu were standout performances at this year’s ceremony, winning Best Actress and receiving two nominations respectively for Papa performances; thus becoming the most nominated actors of this ceremony. Other winners included Xiang Gang for The Last Dance which won best film award as well as highest grossing movie of 2015; documentary The Way Home earned best social issue film award.
Security and customer service departments at HKJC oversee every stage of the draw process to ensure its fairness, and draw balls are regularly weighed and X-Rayed before being locked away safely after each draw. Organisers of the Hong Kong Marathon ensured participants’ safety by offering only an incentive award of HK$10,000 for those finishing under 3 hours for men (3:30 for women), while restricting non-local runners’ participation this year.
Sergio Garcia won his second LIV Golf Championship title with a final-round 63 to claim individual victory by three shots over Dean Burmester and Stinger GC. Despite rain-induced cancellation, this event still proceeded as scheduled and attracted large numbers of spectators; SAF’s Make It Better program provided expressive arts workshops for children at risk in San Antonio through this tournament, raising over $50,000 dollars towards its prize fund totalling $25 Million; 4 Million was allocated as individual prize and $5 Million awarded team competition winner respectively.
